Best Made Company Famous Red Notebook [Review]

DSC_9058 Best Made Company really lives up to their name. Every time I browse the site I have to lock away my credit card because it’s all quality stuff. Their notebook, the “Famous Red Notebook” has been on my list for a while now. I finally broke down and placed an order. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed as soon as I opened the box.

I ordered a 3 pack and they came in a simple brown box. Inside was packed with straw and the notebooks in a nice white draw string bag, which my wife stole immediately. It also came with 3 of their wood pencils. But what really sold me was how red these notebooks were.

I’m very particular about red. It’s been killing me that I can’t find a really good red ink pen. Most of them come across as pink or maroon. I want my red to be red and The Famous Red Notebook delivers. It’s a very classic looking red. Maybe note quite as deep red as the Blood Red edition of Field Notes. I was so happy that they nailed the red color. Given the name of these notebooks I shouldn’t have worried.

The pages are dot grid, though they call them “square dotted”. I would prefer graph (always) but dot grid is one I can live with. Lines are the absolute worst. I’d rather have blank. These notebooks are also numbered which comes in handy for people who like to index or us a system like the Bullet Journal. I’ll be using one of these to show off that system in an upcoming review. The front inside flap has a spot for a start and end date an basic info and the back flap has a nice ruler. If you’ve used the ubiquitous Field Notes then you know the deal there.

The paper is superb. Holds ink very well and feels good to write on. Along with being numbered the pages are also perforated. That’s not one of my favorite features as I like to keep my notebooks when I’m done but I don’t mind too much on these notebooks. It’s nice to have the option to take out a sheet and keep things clean and neat. In my experience perforation tends to mean some of the pages may get separated unintentionally. Not a major problem and it won’t keep me from using these. Did I mention they nailed the red color? Because they nailed it.

Some specs from their website:

These are great looking notebooks and if you collect this sort of thing like I do you should definitely get a few of these for your collection. You won’t be disappointed.

Comments

  1. What color are they?

  2. You can get them any color you want as long as it’s red.

Nice! You know I’m gonna have to give them a try too! I am a journal addict.

  4. They are quite nice. I’m about to have to order more too! I wish they were not perforated pages but so far that has not been an issue.
